Hot and Spicy!

During my last pregnancy, I developed regular cravings for hot and spicy foods. One of my favorite dishes was a sausage and salsa dip with tortilla chips. It was so not healthy, but absolutely satisfied my cravings for fiery hot and salty foods.

For some odd reason (maybe I'm pregnant again, hmm) this meal has been the source of my cravings lately. So I thought I'd add the recipe here in case you might also be ready to throw caution to the wind with a fat laden, spicy hot tortilla chip dip.

Here are the ingredients you'll need:

  • One package of Bob Evans Zesty Hot Sausage
  • One jar of hot salsa
  • One block of jalapeño cheese (Velveeta or store brand is fine)
  • Your favorite brand of tortilla chips

It's real simple to make this spicy hot dip. Just cook the sausage thoroughly, mix in the salsa and cheese, and simmer until the cheese has melted. Then enjoy with some tortilla chips. (My favorite are the mini round kind.) Regarding the jalapeño cheese, I usually mix in 16 oz or so of diced cheese (though more can be added if you prefer a cheesier dip). And be careful when choosing a salsa brand; do a simple 'shake test' to make sure the salsa isn't too runny.

If you like hot and spicy foods, here's a sloppy joe recipe you'll want to try. It may not be the healthiest of meals, but it is hunger-satisfying and easy to make. Best of all, this recipe only costs about $8 (or less, if items are on sale) to feed a family of 3-5, depending on appetite.
